"The Narrative in Lights":
The presence of the light designer in a performance assumes the presence of his/her personal narrative. This workshop involves a series of attempts to search for a personal narrative and transform it into light. Part One: A journey into discovering the inner stories and connecting them followed by finding a light form that tells them. Part two: Participants will make a basic light design . The group discusses what they see from it. Target Applicants: --------------- Target applicants vary from professionals, students, to beginners. Architects, Graphic Designers, and visual artists can also benefit from the workshop. This workshop can help beginners in understanding light design and its process. It can also be an inspiration for professionals in giving a new insight/ view to light design. Workshop Language: ----------------- The language can be in both Arabic and English depending on the applicants’ background and preference. About Alaa Minawi ---------------- (Beirut - 1982) is a Dutch-Lebanese-Palestinian artist based between Beirut and Amsterdam. His work ranges between performing arts and installations. Alaa started his career in 2006 as a light designer & Scenographer. In 2010, he started creating his own installations that were mainly presented in public spaces. In 2016, Alaa started his artistic research about belonging and its relationship to physical spaces. This lead to a series of performances all under the same name; "2048". In his practice, Alaa tries to explore the possibilities of merging installation and performing arts. He also tries to involve the audience, not only as active participants, but rather as an integral element in the structure of the performance, for that Alaa diminishes the role of the performer and highlights the presence of the spectator. Subjects like belonging, presence, absence, arab-futurism, wars, traumas, and heeling were tackled within alaa minawi's works.
