"an installation exploring the impact of light on inspiration"
beirut - monot theatre - 2012
[a piano in my pillow] is a light and sound performance presented by vladimir kurumilian & alaa minawi, where light transcends into sound. The performance is based on the concept of dreams and their influence in portraying our reality. It is an improvisation between lights and sound, with a mutual understanding, between vladimir and alaa, on what improvisation is. alaa, who has been working on lighting design as a breathing entity since 2010, will transform a series of dream stories into a designed light. alaa is works on the stories and experiments with lights. the stories and the ideas are the outcome of both vladimir and alaa. vladimir, improvises music, and in this particular performance there will be sounds incorporated. vladimir, who has been working since 2009 on his own improvisation project, [entre 2 crochets], will transform what ever he gets from the lighting designed into sounds. In this sense, dreams will be transformed into light and light will transcend into sound, at some points the sound might derive the light. This experiment on the relationship between light and sound, and the power of such intangible, yet so influential elements, on our lives is the core of this ongoing collaboration. It is important to note that: Vladimir did not see the [light] before hand alaa did not hear the [sound] before hand on the day of the performance, these two elements will meet. |
